Signal Transmission and Detection Theory
Takaya YAMAZATO Professor
Department: School of Engineering / Graduate School of Engineering
Class Time: | 2012 Spring Tuesday |
Recommended for: | Graduate students of Electrical Engineering and Computer science Course |
Course Overview
Course Objectives
The purpose of wireless sensor network (WSN) is to monitor physical or environmental conditions, such as temperature, sound, vibration, pressure, motion or pollutants by spatially distributed autonomous sensors.
Not just giving to advance sensing, WSN has a potential to create a new paradigm of information society. Also, WSN has a potential to become a fundamental technique of society. Various applications of WSN are expected. Such includes the rescue operation at a disaster, an environmental measurement, security, an intelligent space and amusements, etc. WSN is built of sensor nodes, connected to one another and passes the sensed data cooperatively through the network to a fusion center. What makes WSN different from ordinary wireless network is that the sensor node is unstable, uncertain and sometimes it has severe constrains. The design of WSN is therefore taken these into an account and makes it effective.
The objective of this course is to give a fundamental theory and technique of WSN.
Key Features
This lecture is alternatively taught in the every other year with Professor Masaaki Katayama. When my turn comes to take charge of the lecture, I teach WSN.
Theory of WSN covers, sensing theory, communication and networks, distributed sensing theory, signal processing, control theory, system theory and more. In this lecture, I mainly focus on signal processing and detection theory, communication and network theory. I try to organize to teach only the essence of those theories and try not to give every detail. Students will be asked to read the original papers of WSN for deeper understanding and write reports about them. I also present brief survey of current research trend of WSN to draw students' attentions.
